Psalm 1

Psalm 1 set to the first Melacartan classical mode – Kanakangi (Rogodonoma).
Hear Psalm 1

Q. Do you prosper in everything you do?

Q. What is the Law of the Lord?

Q. What does a fruitful tree mean to you?

Q. Are you wicked?

Q. Have you ever scoffed at goodness?

Q. Do you mediate on the Law of the Lord day and night?

Q. Will you stand in the judgement?

The Psalms were written over the course of several centuries. We don’t know when the earliest Psalms were written. Who knows? Maybe Adam and Eve wrote Psalms that were remembered by Enoch and by Noah, and passed down to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samuel and finally David, Solomon and the prophets up to the time of the building of the second temple. We can assume they were collected and set in order by one or more compilers. And when we consider the ordering of the Psalms, we might think that the organizers themselves were inspired in their gift of administration. Psalm 1 certainly sets a very practical theme for the whole collection. The righteous will delight in the Law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night.

Commentaries

For every Psalm, we will offer some helpful commentaries from a wide variety of sources from multiple faith perspectives – some for beginners, some for the more scholarly. The easier material will always come first. This will be followed by the Psalm Walk Curriculum videos and workbook, which is used by those churches that encourage small Bible Study Groups and Life Groups.
